"What is lymph draining? Is it effective?" S, Waterkloofrif
Lymph draining is nothing more than a special kind of
massage. When the lymph nodes in your body are swollen, a
targeted massage helps to drain the fluids away. This
provides relief from the discomfort you felt earlier.
"Is there a difference between a manicure and a paraffin manicure?" Ms Sanderson, Monument Park
The difference is that with a paraffin manicure, a special wax
treatment to moisturize the hands are added.
"What is a parafargo?" Anonymous
A parafargo is a warm anti-cellulite wrap. It entails a very
thorough process. After exfoliation, vulcanic mud is applied
to the targeted area, which is then wrapped for half an hour.
A fifteen minute lymph draining follows. Already after two
treatments a difference in the texture of the skin is noticeable. |
"I read in a magazine about something called a thalgo wrap. Do you have such a treatment?" Andrea, Garsfontein
We do, yes, and it is a very interesting experience. In this
treatment, your body heat is reduced by means of algae and
other natural products from the ocean. Your body naturally
wants to reheat itself, and draws on your body fat to do so.
As a result, you lose weight. The accompanying exfoliation
and cream scrub leaves you with a highly revitalised skin
surface too. |
"When I let myself in for a spa experience, what can Iexpect?" Petra, Centurion
One the one hand, you will be spoiling yourself wonderfully,
with treatments that range from manicures and pedicures to
full body scrubs or a hydro jet bath. On the other hand, you
will be doing your health a power of good, destressing and
getting into touch with your living body. Different hydro spa
packages are available, so your choice will determine the
details of your experience. Guaranteed, all the experiences
will be pleasurable! Have a look at our seasonal specials or a
gift package for someone important in your life. |
"What do I bring along for my spa treatment?" Charlene (first timer), Moreleta
We provide towels and everything else you will need. If you
prefer, you can bring your own undies. But there's really no
need, since we even include disposable undies in our different
packages. |
"Will many people be working on my body?" - Anonymous
This of course depends on the kinds of treatments you come
in for. Usually only one therapist will work with you. At
times, when highly specialised treatments are required, it
may be two therapists. |
"How does hair removal work?" Sandra, Eastwood
It's all a matter of light, Sandra. A special gel is applied to
the skin. Then an applicator sends light impulses right into
the hair follicle, thereby destroying it. Don't worry, though!
No pain is involved. At most you could expect to feel slight
tingling of your skin, or a gentle heat sensation. The
treatment we offer, called miniIPL, is much faster and less
painful than, for instance, electrolysis, which uses needles, or
waxing. |
"A follow-up question: does hair removal work well for everybody?" Sandra, Eastwood
Hair removal is most effective for people who have fair skins
and dark hair. Fair hair is the most difficult to remove by
means of light. What is more, remember that there is no
such thing as permanent hair removal, because the skin
renews itself naturally every few weeks. However, regular
hair removal means you get the maximum time frame
without unwanted hair. Also, it is highly recommended that
you not wax or sun burn for a month before the treatment, to
obtain the best possible results. |

"A last question: are there any side-effects to hair removal treatment?" Sandra, Eastwood
Very few people experience something that looks like sun
burn. However, even for those a hydrocortisone cream can
be used. In all cases, though, one should avoid the sun for
about a month after hair removal treatment. You should also
abstain for a day or two from all your lovely perfumes, or
from any other heat treatments. |
Antoinette, an accountant from Brooklyn, sent us this question: What is a Swedish massage?
A Swedish massage is a more intense, deeply penetrating
body massage, Antoinette. An aromatherapy massage, for
instance, would be soft, letting the oils enter your body
through the skin for the desired relaxing effect. However, if
you have muscle pains or spastic muscle contractions in a
specific area, thorough, targeted attention is needed. This
deeper, harder massage is a Swedish massage. (So, no, for
this kind of specialist treatment, you don't have to fly to a
Nordic country !) |
"I have a friend, Karl, who was quite interested to hear of my aromatherapy massage the other day. Can I bring him along for something similar once?" Lynn, Constantia Park.
Of course you can, Lynn! Many men feel a little embarassed
to walk into a hydro spa. But once they've been, many
become regulars
An aromatherapy massage would be a
good place to start. Many men, though, because of sporting
activities or incorrect posture at work, benefit greatly from a
deeper treatment, such as a Swedish massage. |
